The remake of Godzilla by Legendary Pictures is being rewritten by Iron Man 3 writer, Drew Pearce, before casting begins!

Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) has been hired to rewrite the upcoming remake of Godzilla. Pearce is coming to work on the script for the next four weeks Variety says, “the [rewrite] isn’t being done because Legendary has any major problems with the script; it wants to age up the characters so that they fit the prototype of the actors they would like to target.” The original drafts were written by David Callahan (The Expendables), David Goyer (Batman Begins), and Max Borenstein.

The film has received a lot of hype since its first teaser poster was revealed at Comic-Con earlier this year. Gareth Edwards (Monsters) is directing this remake of one of the most recognizable creatures in film history.

When Edwards’ Godzilla hits theaters in May 2014, it will be the 30th Godzilla film in the franchise, with the first debuting in 1954 by Japanese director Ishirô Honda.

There’s been no news on casting yet as Legendary Pictures hasn’t started that process, but once Pearce polishes the script, we’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Are you looking forward to another Godzilla remake? Or has the franchise been overdone?
