The release date to Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla sequel has just been set.

The Wrap reports that Warner Bros and Legendary have set June 8, 2018 as the release date for the followup to the massively successful Godzilla.

Godzilla was a massive box office success. It has now grossed over $507 million worldwide. It’s only been released for one weekend in Japan, the country where the massive franchise originated, so it still has the potential to make more money.

At Comic-Con it was confirmed that Godzilla director Gareth Edwards would return to direct Godzilla 2, and it was revealed that it would be his next project after directing his upcoming Star Wars solo movie.

“First I genuinely need a break from all pressure of doing a major franchise with all fanboy opinions that go with that,” Edwards joked at Legendary’s Comic-Con panel. “We’re up here doing a small little sci-fi movie.”

A short trailer for the sequel debuted at Legendary’s Comic-Con panel. The trailer announced three monsters that will be in Godzilla 2: Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra.

The three monsters were revealed in a trailer that featured graphics depicting each of them. The trailer ended with an ominous message: “Let them fight.” This is, of course, the same thing that Ken Watanabe’s character said in this year’s Godzilla.

Also announced at the panel was a new King Kong origin movie titled Skull Island which will be released on November 4, 2016. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a Godzilla vs. King Kong movie in 2020.

Not much else is known about Godzilla 2, but being as the movie is four years away that’s not too big of a surprise. With his Star Wars solo movie and Godzilla 2, the next four years will certainly be very busy for Gareth Edwards.
