To no one’s surprise, Gods of Egypt was a major flop for Lionsgate. Also to no one’s surprise, Deadpool continues to be awesome three weeks running.

According to Box Office Mojo, the estimate intake at the box office for Gods of Egypt is $14 million. While that’s more than just pocket change for most people, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the film’s $140 million budget.

Foreign projections are placing the film a bit higher on the totem poll at $24 million, with a total of $38.2 million projected earnings.

Still, Gods of Egypt will need to work hard to recoup the money spent on the CGI-fest that hit cinemas on February 26. Some are speculating that Deadpool’s shocking success could be the result of this box office bombing, but considering the superhero film has already been out for three weeks, it’s unlikely, though it has now raked in a total of $609 million worldwide.

What could be affecting the numbers, on the other hand, is the controversy surrounding the film’s lack of diversity. Both Director Alex Proyas and Lionsgate have made statements regarding the whitewashing of a film that takes place in Africa, though clearly tackling the criticism after production has wrapped is a bit ineffectual.

Proyas took to his Facebook page to blame critics for the dismal reviews on Sunday evening.

According to Deadline, Gods of Egypt will be released in China on March 11, which could give the film a serious boost in the foreign markets category.
