No April Fools’ joke: Glee actor Cory Monteith has checked himself into a rehab facility and will not be a part of the remainder of Glee season 4 filming.

People Magazine broke the exclusive shocker last night on its website saying:

The actor “has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction,” his rep tells People. “He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”

People also noted that Cory has been open about his history with rehab and substance abuse, saying in 2011:

“I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too.”

As most Glee fans know, Cory and co-star Lea Michele have been in a relationship for the last year or so. We can’t help but wonder what Lea and the rest of the cast and crew of Glee are thinking about this news. Earlier yesterday, Lea Michele tweeted, “Feeling so grateful today

We’ll continue to keep fans of Cory in-the-know about the situation as it progresses. It’s also worth noting that Cory went to an official press outlet to announce this news rather than having TMZ or another gossip site spin it into a negative headline.

We’re wishing Cory and his friends and family the best as he recovers from this tough situation.
