Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly is shedding light on the network’s plans for the future of Glee, including what’s in store for seasons 5 and 6.

Glee fans were surprised last month when Fox decided to renew the beloved dramedy for not one but two more seasons, giving the show a promising future.

In a new interview with Collider, Reilly said that Glee‘s season 5 and 6 renewal is not necessarily a sign of an end point. “I don’t want to say that we’re marching towards an end,” he said. “We have two more seasons, which speaks to the confidence of the show and how important it is to us and our belief in Ryan [Murphy]. We’re going to take it two seasons at a time.”

So what can we expect over the next two batches of episodes through 2014 and 2015? “There will be progression in the story,” he promised. “I think that will be the fun thing for the fans. It’s not going to be a static two seasons. We’re going to continue with graduation.”

Reilly stressed that it’s important to keep long term fans pleased along with potential newcomers. “When the show was really at its height, there were cross-over fans. The show has been very steady all year, and a really solid performer. The core fans were really happy with what went on there, creatively. So, we want to lock those in and keep them engaged in new things. New York was a really great addition to the show this year. So, there are going to be graduations and we’re going to be taking New York to the next step, in that adventure, and then there will be some really interesting mini-arcs, like we’ve done with our guest actors.”

Glee season 4 finale aired a week ago Thursday and was regarded by many to be a bit of a mess (you can read our readers’ comments as well as our detailed recap).
