Glee’s sixth and final season premieres Friday night on Fox, and things are about to get very real with some of your favorite characters.

We had a chance to preview tomorrow night’s 2-part season premiere, and there’s a lot to get excited for, but beware: it may not have you singing and dancing in your living room.

In the first episode, “Loser Like Me,” we get a real dose of reality in terms of where each of the characters are in their lives. If you thought season 5 was emotionally intense, it has nothing on this first episode. As show runner Ryan Murphy mentioned a few months ago, we land a few months ahead of where season 5 left off when we pick back up in this season 6 premiere. We find out exactly what is going on with everyone all these months later, and frankly, it’s not looking too promising for anyone. Get your tissues handy, expect a major surprise (which we reported on a few months ago) and don’t expect too many laughs.

Standout performance: “Let It Go”

The second part of the premiere, the second episode of the season, titled “Homecoming,” is much more traditional Glee. Back are the traditional singsongy, campy, cheerful performances in the cafeteria and halls of McKinley High (and Dalton Academy for that matter). Be prepared to see some old, familiar faces, and lots of homages to season 1. We meet some of the new faces we reported about a few weeks ago, and good news: they’re an incredible breath of fresh air that Glee desperately needed heading into this final season. Of these new faces are a pair of promising Cheerios that will likely leave you laughing out loud.

Standout performance: “Home”

Don’t forget to catch Glee’s 2-part season premiere tomorrow night starting at 8/7c on Fox. Glee will move to Fridays at 9/8c for the remainder of the season starting next week.

We’ll also be back with new episodes of Glee Chat as well as our usual recaps and features!

Will you be tuning in to Glee’s sixth and final season premiere tomorrow night?
