Speaking to journalists today, Fox President Kevin Reilly said that they are anticipating Glee’s season 6 will be the end for the show.

“I would not anticipate it goes beyond two more seasons,” Reilly said in comments shared by The Hollywood Reporter.

Reilly thinks that the two-season renewal they made earlier this year was their way of setting up an end game. “There’s two very clear arcs to get to that end and conclude. Listen, if we discover a new crop of kids and there’s some breakout, who knows. But right now we’re thinking about two seasons.”

He added: “Never say never.”

Fans and critics were surprised by Fox’s decision to order not one by two new seasons of Glee when usually networks only order one season of a show at a time. Today’s comments from Reilly put more light on the situation.

The good news about a long-term plan for the end of the show is that creator Ryan Murphy will have plenty of time to make sure everyone has a proper send off.

Glee’s end plan comes on ratings that have been sinking slowly over seasons 3 and 4. Season 5 of the beloved dramedy will kick off September 26. Episodes 1 and 2 will be Beatles tributes while season 3 will be the Cory Monteith/Finn special.

Earlier today, Reilly confirmed that drug abuse will be a focus of Monteith’s tribute episode following his death caused by heroin and alcohol.

Thanks, THR.
