Glee boss Ryan Murphy has tweeted a very interesting picture of the Glee cast as we’ve never seen them before – puppet style! It’s thought that the Sesame Street-style New Directions will be featured in an upcoming episode.

Ryan Murphy tweeted the following photo last night, saying “Glee puppets! With many more to come! Who’s ur favorite so far?”

As far as we can tell, the puppets featured here are not, in fact, the cast of Tony-award winning musical Avenue Q, but (from left to right) Ryder, Mr Schue, Artie, Sam, Becky, Marley, Jake, Kitty, Unique and Tina. We have absolutely no context as to how the puppets will be used, but an upcoming episode of the series is rumored to be titled “Puppet Master.”

In addition, co-star Darren Criss tweeted about filming a special scene yesterday. We know he’s a big fan of The Muppets (and once performed a duet with Kermit), so could he be referring to shooting one of these scenes?

UPDATE: Murphy has shared a photo of Criss with the puppets:

Glee spoiler fansite Gleek Out Brasil, which, due to its near-100% accuracy rate, has long been suspected to be a receiver of controlled leaks from the Glee production team, has recently reported episode titles and song lists for episodes 6 and 7 of Glee’s season 5.

Glee season 5, episode 6, set to air on November 21, will be titled “Movin’ Out,” and the song list shows that this episode will be the show’s promised tribute to Billy Joel. Hypable also recently posted Glee season 5, episode 7’s song list, and Gleek Out Brasil has this episode listed under the title “Puppet Master.”

No plot details are available about the “Puppet Master” episode, airing November 28, but this photo of the cast as Jim Henson-style puppets seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

The songs set to feature in Glee season 5, episode 7 include:

Cheek To Cheek – Fred Astaire
Into The Groove – Madonna
Nasty/Rhythm Nation – Janet Jackson
You’re My Best Friend – Queen
We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus
Don’t You (Forget About Me) – Simple Minds

While these are some great songs – Glee always does Queen well, and the Simple Minds track is iconic for its use in teen classic The Breakfast Club, so fingers crossed for some sort of homage to that film – we can’t help be a little disappointed that an episode featuring these little felt guys does not include an Avenue Q number.

Which song from “Puppet Master” do you want to see performed in puppet form? And which as-yet-unseen character are you most looking forward to seeing the felt version of?
