Glee’s show runners are considering moving the entire story line of the show to New York City as early as season 5.

The decision would be a major shift in the show’s storytelling and would rock the basis of nearly all of the characters.

Says TV Line, who broke the news, “It’s one of several ideas Fox is discussing with Glee creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who have been forced to reexamine all aspects of the show in the wake of Cory Monteith’s tragic death in July. In an interview earlier this month, Murphy acknowledged that navigating the post-Finn era has been ‘f—ing hard,’ adding, ‘It’s hard every day. It’s hard in the writers room, it’s hard on the set.’”

Glee decided to split season 4 between New York City and Lima for season 4 with fans, for the most part, finding the two story lines to work well on the show. Considering that this show is ultimately about Ms. Rachel Berry, it makes sense that Glee on a whole would head in this direction as it winds down its final two seasons.

Following the end of season 3 there were rumors that a Glee spinoff series would land Kurt, Rachel, Finn and Blaine in New York City. Ryan Murphy has always said that Glee will “always be about that choir room,” and may find some challenges connecting the storyline back to that if the show moves entirely to the Big Apple.

What are your thoughts about Glee being a full-time New York City based show? Would you miss the characters at Lima?

The biggest question is: which characters would survive the move? Criss’ Blaine is a person who would obviously be safe, but others – particularly those who are newer – could possibly be axed.

Glee returns next Thursday, November 7 with a new episode in which Adam Lambert guest stars. Listen to the star perform Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” now.
