Glee season 5 is currently shooting scenes for the upcoming Nationals storyline, and one new cast member has tweeted about her involvement.

Actress Marlee Matlin has joined Glee for a guest role as one of the judges at Nationals. The first mention of her involvement came via the actress herself when she proudly tweeted that she is on set:

She later shared a photo with co-stars Darren Criss (Blaine), Chord Overstreet (Sam), and new cast member Skylar Astin (who will play a Nationals competitor):

Speaking of Astin, we now know he’ll play a character named Jean-Baptise in a group called Throat Explosion. The actor is best known for his role in the acapella movie Pitch Perfect. The decision to add him to Glee for a guest role was – well – “perfect.”

Glee has historically brought on special guest stars to fill out the Nationals judges table. Previous celebrities include Perez Hilton, Kathy Griffin, Lindsay Lohan, and Loretta Devine.

Season 5 is currently on a hiatus but will return with new episodes in February. While you wait, check out the song lists for episode 9 and episode 10. Also be sure to see our recap of the most recent episode titled “Previously Unaired Christmas” to catch up on the storyline.

Matlin is best known for her roles on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth and Showtime’s The L Word.
