Fox has confirmed that the remainder of Glee will take place only in New York City.

The announcement was made Monday when The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Fox entertainment head Kevin Reilly after his Television Critics Association panel.

Reilly told THR in a one-on-one interview that the show will go “exclusively” to New York City, and several people at McKinley (in Ohio) will graduate. Not all will be moving to the Big Apple.

“Some are going to be graduating and moving; creatively, it would be ridiculous that everybody moves to New York,” he said. “There will be some that will graduate and move on and they’ll arc back in when we do special episodes. They’ll always be a part of it. The way it’s going to dovetail next season, we’ll see some familiar faces coming around in some capacity. But for this season, there will be a graduation, several of the cast members will move on and a few others will go to New York.”

Reilly would not say which characters are graduating and moving to New York City, but the article suggests Sue Sylvester and Mr. Schuester will remain in the picture. The future of recent McKinley newcomers like Jake, Marley, Ryder, and Unique is unclear.

Finally, Reilly reiterated that Glee season 6 will be the show’s last. “[Ryan Murphy has] got some fantastic ideas on what we’re going to do next year for the final year.”

This sudden move to New York City will only make gleeks raise more questions about the future of the show. We’ll have to wait and see what new interviews, synopses, and set reports say before any more light can be shed on the situation.

Glee returns next month on its original day and time: Tuesday, February 25 at 8 p.m. eastern/pacific.
