The Glee season 4 finale is right around the corner. Which means it’s time for us to reflect back and pick our top ten most unforgettable scenes of the year.

10). The Rachel and Kurt Reunion

“I lied. I’m not ok. I miss you and I miss everything.” Anyone who has ever moved away and tried to take on a new place by themselves will know this feel. If your heart didn’t clench a little when these two best friends ran into each others arms, you’re an unfeeling person who needs to show yourself to the door. Because this moment is very special for the Kurt and Rachel friendship and if you’ve been watching since the beginning you should understand how long this has been building. This isn’t just a reunion between two high school friends. This is the beginning of a new life for them both. Here they are, in New York City – the place they’ve been dreaming of since forever – ready to chase their dreams together. There’s really nothing more special or magical than that.

9). Leave Brittney Alone!

Brittany’s in a pretty dark place after Santana moves away to college and she gets kicked off the Cheerios for being a disgrace to the team. This frustration and depression leads her to a downward spiral that will never be forgotten. Her reenactment of the Britney Spears meltdown of 2007 was so perfectly Glee that it was hard to imagine them NOT doing this in some fashion. Plus, you can’t really feel bad watching Brittany pummel Jacob Ben Israel as she takes out her frustrations out on him with her flying green umbrella. The entire glee club has wanted to take him down at one time or another. He sort of had it coming all along.

8). Vapo-Rape

Maybe we should call this the best most awkward scene of the season. Whether you were drowning in secondhand embarrassment or screaming profanities as Tina meets her low point – we know you were freaking out in some capacity. Poor Tina has been nursing pretty strong feelings for her “best gay” but that in no way makes her nonconsensual touching appropriate. Luckily though, the scene just ends before it could go to a really bad place and Tina does admit to her serious moment of misbehavior later in the season. So for the most part we can look back on the moment with uncomfortable laughter and a burning glare of side-eye.

7). Quinn and Santana Get Busy

There are some of you out there who have been waiting for this moment since the very early days of Glee. So it’s not an overstatement to say that in certain circles, joy literally erupted from the mountain tops when Santana and Quinn made a love connection at Mr. Shuester’s fake wedding reception. Quinntana fans around the world rejoiced as they finally got to see queen-B1 and queen-B2 finally get their freak on. Though that’s not to say that the moment wasn’t pretty spectacular for the rest of us too.

6). Blaine’s Crush Confession

This moment is not only what BLAM dreams are made of, it’s kind of a big reason as to why we watch Glee in the first place. It’s not every day that we get to see a gay boy admit his romantic feelings toward a straight boy and for them to resolve the encounter by bro-7ing it up like nothing ever happened. Sam’s “I trust you” touched people’s hearts and that understanding and empathy is something the world needs a little more of. Thanks Glee, for filling in the void.

On Page 2: Boyfriend Pillow, School Shooting, and our #1 moment

5). Boyfriend Pillow

Sometimes you don’t think Glee can get any weirder – and then comes the boyfriend pillow. Here’s the thing though. Kurt’s groggy admission to Santana and Rachel couldn’t be more perfect or in character. His delivery of the secret shame through the haze of sleep had audiences screaming in embarrassment AND sympathy. Because as many times as you would like to pretend you’re better than the boyfriend pillow, you know deep down that you’re probably not. Besides, no one is going to forget that monstrosity anytime soon and the scene cemented firmly in our minds. Mission accomplished.

4). ‘Funny Girl’ Callback

Were you holding your breath when Rachel got a callback for the Funny Girl audition? Because you should have been. This moment is so big for Rachel that it’s almost surreal seeing the opportunity present itself. You could say that Barbra Streisand has been just as much a part of the Glee experience as any of the other characters on the show. Rachel has done everything to live and breathe Barbra’s essence. So this chance to emulate her is more than a career accomplishment it’s a personal one.

3). The Runaway Bride

Poor Emma just couldn’t deal with the guilt surrounding her kiss with Finn. And the already rocky relationship between her and Will finally came to a head on a very inconvenient day. If you would have told us four years ago that Emma would be running away from her marriage to Will, we would have never been able to believe you. But it’s been a lone road for these two and they’ve had a lot to work through just to keep things going. It’s good to see them reconnecting again and making the attempt to repair this unforgettable moment.

2). School Shooting

We’re going to cheat a little bit with this one. Mostly because it was impossible to pick one moment that stood out among the rest, so we’re presenting them as a collection. Quite a few people were skeptical when word started to spread that Glee was doing a school shooting episode. This is a heavy topic for a program to take on and with a fun lighthearted show like Glee, you’re never sure what to expect. Although the reviews were mixed as to how successful the plot behind the story was, there’s no denying that the actors gave some bone chilling performances. Marley’s confession to her mom about her hidden songs, Sam’s outburst over needing to find Brittany, Tina collapsing into tears as she realizes her friends are trapped inside – all the while the sound of the metronome ticking away in the background… Ugh, not sure we’re ready to go there again any time soon, but the moment sure did leave a lasting impression.

1). The Breakups

We’re not sure how many of you actually WANT to remember this scene from 4×04 but it has to be mentioned none the less. Blaine’s admission of his infidelity and Finn’s regret over letting Rachel go… It’s all too much to process. We get it, we really do. But this was a pivotal moment for the iconic pairings and the characters are still dealing with the fallout today. So we have to give the moment some recognition. Besides, Finchel and Klaine are slowly making their way back to each other. Maybe there will be a day when everyone can look back on this moment as a difficult but necessary stepping stone to healthier and stronger relationships.
