Check out the recap of what happened on last night’s Spanish-themed episode of Glee written by Hypable writer and Glee Chat host John Thrasher!

So here’s what you missed on Glee

Will Schuester’s teaching skills come in to question after a student complained about his ability to teach Spanish. Figgins says that in order for him to be considered for the upcoming tenure position, he’d have to go back to school to learn Spanish…you know, since he’s the Spanish teacher!

David Martinez, played by Ricky Martin, is Will’s night school Spanish teacher. Will introduces himself and gets to talking to David where he finds out he was a tooth model. David wants to teach kids and make a difference in the world…helping them find their duende. David says that he should teach the glee club latin music.

Meanwhile, Sue is trying to convince some of the guys in the Glee club to donate their sperm because she’s going to attempt to have a kid. She goes as far as asking Will to donate himself so that her baby has a full head of hair. A student has complained about Sue herself. Roz Washington returns to give constructive criticism to the Cheerios.

Will says that the songs for this week will be performed by latin artists or artist of latin descent. Or songs performed bilingually.  Santana calls Shue out that he doesn’t know any latin people, right as David Martinez comes in to the choir room. David tells the glee club that duende is when you have soul and passion in a performance and that it makes you want to “kiss the person you love.” Santana asks if he would mind showing them. David begins singing “Sexy and I Know It” half in Spanish and half in English.

Mercedes and Sam talk to Emma about what they should do about their current situation after kissing on stage in the last episode. Emma suggests that they spend a week not talking to each other so that they can get an idea for themselves what they really think.

Roz has taught the Cheerios brand new modern dance moves. Roz tells Sue that it’s clear that the Cheerios clearly liked her moves better than Sue’s.

Rachel, Kurt and Mercedes are in their PJ’s watching a Twilight movie. Rachel then tells the other 2 that she said yes to Finn’s proposal. Kurt and Mercedes ask Rachel why she said yes. Rachel says that she knows she’ll be with FInn for the rest of her life. Kurt gets up to leave because he wants to go home to yell at Finn but Rachel stops him asking, “That’s not fair Kurt, what would you do if Blaine proposed to you today,” to which he didn’t respond. This scene transitions in to Mercedes singing “Don’t Wanna Lose You” half in Spanish and half in English.

Sam and the boys of New Directions sing “Bambaleo/Hero” half in Spanish and half in English. Will asks about the boots that they’re wearing to which Finn explains that their a Mexican fad and that Mr. Martinez told them about them. Schuester looks surprised as Santana says she can’t wait to see what performance he comes up with to defend his Spanish teacher honor.

In the lounge, Emma confronts Sue asking her to explain why she would ask Will for his ‘donation.’ Sue confesses that she is full of irrational rage and that she was hoping that her child would have the type of kindness that Will has shown.

In the gym, Kurt brings brochures to NYC colleges to Finn. Kurt is annoyed that Finn didn’t tell him about his proposal to Rachel saying “I thought we were brothers?” Finn says that Rachel is the only good thing he’s got going in his life, but Kurt immediately reacts with “No, she isn’t Finn.” Kurt says that he doesn’t want Finn to turn in to nothing more than the guy that holds her purse at the red carpet. Kurt ends the back-and-forth with “Your time isn’t up Finn. It’s just beginning.” As Kurt’s walking away Finn thanks him.

Sue seems to think that Santana was the student who lodged the complaint about her teaching tactics. Sue’s annoyed because it will derail her possibilities of getting tenure while she’s about to start a family.

Emma goes to show Will her new pamphlets but he is frustrated about translating his song from English to Spanish.

Equipped with laser lights, Santana and Mr. Martinez perform “La Isla Bonita.” Santana then gives Schue the floor to give his big performance, to which he performs A Little Less Conversation as a matador in half English half Spanish. The performance is complete with Brittany and Mike dressed as bulls. At the end of the performance Shue calls Santana out on being the one who lodged the complaint against Will. She says that she would do it all over again after that performance. Will says that she’s messing with adult things: this is his job, this is his life. Santana bites back saying that it’s her education and it’s not a joke to her. Santana says that the only reason they all liked the performance was because they don’t know any better because he is their teacher: someone who perpetuates stereotypes of Spanish culture. “You don’t even know enough to be embarrassed about the stereotypes that you perpetuate,” says Santana. Santana reminds Schue what he once said, “Without passion you can’t succeed.”

Beiste is raving over Emma’s new pamphlets saying that the brochure “Taint Misbehavin'” has taught her football players to wash their jock straps and could have potentially saved their lives. Beiste showed Coach Cooter who ordered 10,000 copies.

At the end of the night Spanish school, Mr. Martinez gives Will the award for “Most Improved.” Will says that his students deserve better: they deserve Mr. Martinez. Will says that he has spoke to Figgins and that he has given Mr. Martinez his Spanish teaching position. Will is transferring to the History department.

Sue realized that Becky was the one who filed the complaint about Sue, that she’s not as focused on the Cheerios as she used to be.

At the end of the week, Mercedes and Sam go to talk to each other but not before Shane interjects and pulls Mercedes away for lunch.

Back home, Will has set up a huge dinner for Emma as an apology for the way he treated her regarding her pamphlets. It turns out that Emma was the teacher who received tenure.

John’s Thoughts:

Though I rehash this episode completely in episode 19 of Glee Chat, I think overall, this episode was very well structured. It didn’t seem all over the place like some previous episodes this season. It reminded me a lot of season 1 of Glee but maybe that’s because Blaine wasn’t on this episode. Also, where was Tina this episode? And while we’re at it where was Sugar on last episode? How do they completely remove characters without giving a reason behind it? Though this episode was nice, it’s nothing memorable and seemed to really be made to move the plot along.

Be sure to catch the full episode rehash on the next episode of Glee Chat, Hypable’s exclusive Glee podcast!
