This week, Hypable’s own John Thrasher writes the recap to all of the events of last night’s “Mash Off” episode!

Last night’s episode of Glee was pretty intense from start to finish. In the first couple of minutes we find out that though the Puck and Shelby situation is very awkward and inappropriate, he is actually 18 so there’s nothing illegal going on. Shelby continues to try to keep Puck at a distance, realizing that the kiss was not something she wanted to do. The scene transitions in to “Hot Teacher” performance which ends in the glee club room. Puck says that he’s in love with Shelby to which she responds with “Oh God.” Puck also suggests that Beth needs a Dad.

Sue has made a political ad smearing Burt Hummel saying that he has a baboon heart. Kurt confronts Sue about it to which she says “it’s not personal.” Sue says, “I hate the arts…and a bunch of other stuff.”

Shelby and Shuester decide to create some friendly competition between the two clubs by having a ‘mash off’ where both clubs will perform a mash up. Shelby and Shuester sing the mash up, “You and I / You and I” to which Brittany asks, “Is this what having a stroke feels like, cuz I kinda like it.”

Quinn tells Puck that she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get close to Shelby becuase it means that she’ll get closer to Beth. Quinn asks Shelby if she can join the Trouble Tones to which Shelby replies, “I’ll have to think about that.”

The first of a few intense moments with Santana and Finn happens in the hallways when Santana calls Finn an orca. Finn suggests they finish this at a dodgeball game after school.

Rachel asks Shelby to sign a letter of recommendation that she had already written for her college application. Shelby says that she’s proud of Rachel which gives Rachel the idea that maybe Shelby would want to write her own version of the letter.

The dodgeball game begins with the “Hit Me With Your Best Shot / One Way Or Another” mash up  and quickly gets intensely physical. By the end of the game, the Trouble Tones gang up on Rory as he’s pelted with several dodgeballs at at once, causing him a nose bleed. Kurt intervenes and helps Rory to his feet, claiming that the game was overly violent.

Santana pledges to be nicer and goes to apologize to Finn, but ends up insulting him for a good 30 seconds in the hallway. Santana, goes to walk away when Finn says, “Hey Santana, why don’t you come out of the closet?” Santana freezes in fear while Finn continues, “You can’t admit to everybody that you’re in love with Brittany and she might not love you back. You know what I think you are? A coward.”

In the second ad created by Sue Sylvester, she suggests that Burt Hummel is married to a donkey.

Puck ends up over at Shelby’s again and comes clean about Quinn’s attempted sabotage and her quest to get Beth back.

The first of the mash offs shows New Directions in Hall & Oats 80s garb performing “I Can’t Go For That/You Make My Dreams.”

The senior class presidential debate shows Rick the Stick promoting teachers being quiet, Brittany promoting making tornados illegal, Kurt changing from obesity to banning dodgeball and bullying, and in a surprise twist, Rachel withdrawing from the race and endorsing Kurt.

Quinn stops by Shelby’s place to drop off some things when she was in the neighborhood. Shelby tells Quinn that she knows what she’s up to: “You have no idea what it means to be a mother.” Shelby doesn’t feel comfortable with Quinn being around Beth anymore, and she kicks her out of her apartment.

Santana is called down to Sue’s office where she, Shuester and Burt Hummel are offering their guidance and support. Santana has no idea what is happening. It turns out one of the other people running against Sue and Burt has a niece at McKinley who overheard Finn telling Santana to come out of the closet. Burt shows Santana a smear campaign ad demoralizing Sue for promoting a lesbian cheerleader as captain, as well as multiple graphics of Santana with gay symbols. The video also claims that Sue doesn’t have a husband, implying that she herself is a lesbian. Horrified by what she’s seeing, Santana runs out of the room saying, “I haven’t even told my parents yet!” She runs down the hallway as the scene transitions in to “Rumour Has It / Someone Like You.”

After the performance, Santana sees Finn whispering to Rachel in the audience. She jumps off the stage and asks him what he’s saying to her. Finn says “I told her you were great.” Santana doesn’t believe him, and starts screaming that the whole school is going to know. Finn says, “The whole school does know and you know what? They don’t care.” Santana then slaps Finn in the face in front of everyone.

This episode was pretty heavy! What did you think about it? Do you think Finn was out of line for outing Santana in the hallway like that?

Be sure to keep an eye out for Hypable’s Glee Chat podcast in the next couple of days, which rehashes this week’s episode and the situation between Finn and Santana!
