Tonight’s Girls season 4, episode 6 stumbles upon Hannah and Adam putting their future’s in the hands of someone else. Find out where that advice leads in our recap.

As predicted, Adam isn’t going very far from the central storyline of Girls. In tonight’s episode, he moves out with Mimi Rose, but a closer look at their relationship pushes past the decorative fruit bowls and shared book shelves. Marnie and Desi are still disgustingly narcissistic, but some creative trouble starts to let the air out of their bubble.

“I get by with a little help from friends,” goes the Beatles famous song, but Hannah’s friends are the last people she should be consulting with when it comes to making major life decisions. Elijah is there to pick up the pieces when her battle with the cinnamon cereal sets her over the edge, but aside from helping her make rent, the former superstar of Iowa offers little in the way of solid career advice.

Professionally offered advice may not be any consolation prize either. Has Hannah’s therapist ever met her? Most of the characters on Girls have a good heart somewhere deep down, but on the surface, if the opportunity is convenient to help them first and a friend second, they will take it. Just look at Hannah and Shoshanna’s trip to get Jessa last year. Shosh went to make herself feel like she was on an adventure, and Hannah wanted the experience so that she could write about it.

Speaking of self-absorbed, the only way the two of them could be more in love with themselves is if they added mirrored walls to their apartment. Marnie is taking the lead on keeping their music career on track, but Desi isn’t feeling the message they are throwing out to the audience. After all, opening with a love song would mean that the two of them actually feel that way about each other. Why not start with their other hit, a tribute to Marcus Garvey. They seem like the civil rights activist type, no? Did we mention they have sex to their own music? Ew.

Regardless of how brunch plays out, Hannah takes the idea of helping people and runs with it all the way to the public school system. Meanwhile, Adam and Mimi Rose have a brush with a much larger topic that the show has tackled before. Mimi Rose (that’s just her first name) had an abortion without telling Adam. His tendency to act first then talk creeps up a bit as he pushes everything off a table. While he feels betrayed and completely not needed, Mimi-Rose doesn’t expect him to see that she can handle her own life.

As Caroline pointed out, Adam needs to take care of people. He is not needed in Mimi-Rose’s life, but he is wanted. And that is enough of a line for him to pull himself back from almost moving out to continue on their journey as a couple.

Shoshanna and Ray are finding silver linings on their dark clouds. After another disastrous interview, Shoshanna gets a completely different post interview analysis. She may not be a fit for the company, but she is the interviewer’s type of girl. Ray stands up to his community board and starts to cause a stir in an otherwise monarchist setting. The words patiently and Ray do not mix well, so after sitting all day waiting for his chance to speak it is no wonder the bottle up rage comes out in the form of a revolutionary type declaration.

In the end Adam returns to bed, Hannah prints her resume, Ray clicks through fonts for his campaign, and the future looks a little brighter for some.
