Girls returns tonight with a family reunion at Hannah’s grandmother’s death bed. Read our full recap below.

Girls season 3, episode 11, “Flo,” brings a different group of ladies together to face each other and themselves in the process. In an episode similar to last season’s “One Man’s Trash,” the episode focuses on only Hannah removed from the group.

Come on up: Hannah receives a call from her mother explaining that her Grandma Flo has contracted pneumonia after an operation on her femur. The prognosis is not promising and she must pack up and leave to meet her family. Adam wants to be there for her but cannot miss the first week of rehearsals. Instead, Hannah takes off on the journey by herself.

Greeted by the first of Grandma’s three daughters, who claims she is holding everyone together. Hannah’s mother is next up, who advises Hannah to tell her grandmother that she is marrying Adam. Aside from that plan, the sisters sit around dividing Flo’s medications as well as covering the home in post-its, while arguing over an engagement ring’s rightful owner. Hmm, priorities.

Hit the books: Hannah’s reunion with another misunderstood decedent, her cousin Rebecca, does not help boost morale. Studying to become a doctor, Rebecca is harsh in her analysis of not only Hannah, but everyone in the family. Perhaps a bit misunderstood herself, Rebecca’s tunnel vision for her own success isolates her not only from her aunts, cousin, and grandmother, but everyone around her.

Hannah heads upstairs to inform Adam of her mother’s scheme to please Grandma’s Flo. Marriage, a topic never on the table, places Adam nearly in a plant at his rehearsal, trying to hide from his own awkwardness.

At the bar later on that night, Rebecca reveals that she only invited Hannah out to a bar because it seems like the right place to bring a person like her. In her time working towards a medical degree, she once dated a writer and hated the way he made everything about himself. Hannah, reading this as a personal analysis, finds it is time to leave. In the car, the cousins receive news that Grandma’s fever has spiked.

Trying to respond to the text from her mother, Rebecca swerves the car off a side street directly into another car.

Time to go: Adam frantically arrives, having taken Desi’s bike, to find Hannah banged up, but no worse for the wear. That is until, the gaggle of mother hens arrive comforting their daughters, but ultimately releasing every pent up emotion.

In a scene almost straight from August: Osage County, the women yell until they are blue in the face and get thrown out. Back upstairs, Hannah introduces Grandma to Adam, who in turn, announces their engagement.

Hannah thanks Adam for his gesture, but Hannah’s mother has some other feelings about it. Hannah’s future is very important to her, but dealing with someone who is that bizarre is going to be more work than it may be worth. The next morning, Hannah’s Grandmother takes a turn for the better. Fever gone, spirits high, she eats two cheese sandwiches and gives Hannah one last look over.

As Hannah returns home and exits Grand Central Terminal, Rebecca calls to deliver the news. Grandma Flo has suffered a heart attack and passed away.
