An interesting story was uncovered by the New York Post this morning: Christopher Abbott, who plays Charlie on HBO’s Girls, has left the show after a disagreement with creator and star Lena Dunham.

The publication confirmed with his agent that Abbott has left the show.

“Abbott and Dunham began butting heads as the critical-darling series entered production again,” writes The Post. “’They’ve just started work on season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena,’ a source said. ‘He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.”

The statement from Abbott’s rep read: “[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire Girls cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.”

Charlie’s relationship with Marnie was a rocky one during his tenure on the show, but things seemingly began looking up towards the end of season two after a couple of sexual escapades.

We agree with The Post that Abbott was the cutest guy on the show (though his hairstyle in season 2 was questionable), so we’re going to miss his face come season 3. Perhaps Marnie will find a new man who will win her (and Dunham) over.
