Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Two versions of her are appearing soon at Netflix!

Netflix has once again booked Gina Rodriguez to star in a live-action Carmen Sandiego. This new movie is different than the animated TV project also at Netflix and also starring Rodriguez. Concept art for the animated series was shared last year.

“The movie will be a standalone Carmen adventure that will embrace the beloved ’90s property,” according to Deadline. The live-action movie has no director or writer at this time. It’ll be interesting to see if the movie or TV series arrives first. The latter is set to debut 20 episodes in 2019.

Carmen “is back and ready for a new crop of international capers packed with thrilling adventure and intrigue,” Netflix said of the animated series last year. “This fresh take will present an intimate look into Carmen’s past where viewers will not only follow her escapades but also learn who in the world is Carmen Sandiego and why she became a super thief.”

Also interesting is that Netflix is simultaneously pursuing two Carmen Sandiego projects with the same star but in different formats. We’re already biased towards the movie because we get to see Rodriguez — the Emmy-winning Jane the Virgin star — on screen!
