The Gilmore Girls are reuniting next year, but what we really want from them is a movie.
Stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel will be appearing at a special reunion panel at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, TX in June 2015, along with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.
And that’s great news, for the Gilmore Girls fans who will be able to make it to the panel to listen to these three reminisce about their time on the show. But for the rest of us – it’s just not enough. And yet it turns out, this would be the perfect time for cast and creative team to reunite for one more Stars Hollow adventure.
This only added to disappointment fans felt when series creator and showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino left the show at the end of season 6 with husband and co-writer Daniel Palladino, after a breakdown in contract negotiations.
Most Gilmore Girls fans will agree that the final season, written without Sherman-Palladino’s input, was lacking in comparison to the previous six. The dialogue lost its edge, and many of the characters lost their spark as they began acting more and more out of character.
Yet despite this disappointing end – or perhaps because of it – Gilmore Girls fans are still clamoring for more. The series finale may have aired in 2007, but the recent announcement that Gilmore Girls was being added to Netflix proved that, if anything, the fandom has only grown bigger, with more viewers discovering the show on DVD and now, online.

There is no question that a Gilmore Girls movie will not go ahead without Sherman-Palladino as the driving force. And that is as it should be; no one knows our girls better than she does.
The good news is, Sherman-Palladino is on board. Back in 2009, she hadn’t even watched the final season (honestly, sometimes we wish we hadn’t either). But she has revealed that she had a different story planned for Rory because she’s obviously #TeamJess. As for the potential for a movie, she says, “Anything can happen. If there’s a story to tell, then absolutely I think we’re all going to want to tell it. That’s the bottom line.”
And now is the perfect opportunity to bring it back. With Bunheads unfortunately over before it had a chance to really begin, Sherman-Palladino has some time on her hands. Lauren Graham is similarly free, having been recently freed of her long-term committment to Parenthood, while Alexis Bledel has not had any major roles since Rory. The busiest cast member is Melissa McCarthy, but surely she would find the time between starring comedic roles to return once more as Lorelei’s BFF, Sookie St. James.
With fan demand at an all time high, an apparently interested showrunner and an available cast, all that remains is the plot of the film itself. Luckily Hypable staffer Brittany Lovely already has the plot planned out, and the rest of the Gilmore Girls fans here at Hypable are happy to cosign on her storyline. We’ll even lend it to the creative team, if it means we get our Gilmore Girls movie sooner.

Five years after we bid “The World’s Greatest Journalist” adieu, the Gilmore Girls and all the Stars Hollow favorites reunite! The Obama campaign took Rory (Bledel) across the country and landed her back in Washington, as she watched the Senator become President. But Washington never quiet fit the way Rory hoped it would. Moving to New York, Rory worked her way through the Wall Street Journal’s online expansion, finding that she had more to say and no platform to do so.
With fellow bloggers, staffers, and a few Yale alumni, Rory set up her own successful site, that delivers everything from pop culture to hard hitting investigative journalistic pieces. As a figure head, Rory keeps the site moving, handling everything from operating costs, hosting office happy hours, and finding time to get her own work out there.
But Stars Hollow calls Rory back for the wedding of her mother (Graham) and Luke (Scott Patterson). Reuniting for a long weekend – for the first time that will not be interrupted by a Skype call, or a server problem – Rory and Lorelai try their best to keep everything as low key as possible for June 6. Emily (Kelly Bishop), of course, has different plans. When Rory’s business gets offered a rather substantial buyout right before her departure, Richard (Edward Herrmann) and Emily have different opinions over how she should approach it.
On top of the wedding weekend, it is Rory’s five year Yale reunion. Kicking off the weekend on campus, Rory meets up with Paris (Liza Weil), who dropped out of med school to become a medical lawyer. Not one to miss a party, Logan (Matt Czuchry), whom Rory has been on-again, off-again with in New York, decides to make his grand effort to win her heart in the halls where it all began. But another fellow may have similar ideas, as Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) arrives in Stars Hollow to see his uncle marry the girl from the Dragonfly Inn.
So what will happen when Stars Hollow lets you stroll past Luke’s Diner one more time? The answer: Anything is possible!
