Neil Gaiman’s American Gods TV adaptation just gained the star power of Gillian Anderson!

American Gods is an upcoming miniseries on Starz, adapted from Neil Gaiman’s popular novel of the same name.

The 100 alum Ricky Whittle plays lead character Shadow, with Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, and Emily Browning as Shadow’s wife Laura.

And now, American Gods can count Gillian Anderson among its godly ranks — but she’ll be batting for the wrong team.

Anderson will play Media, which marks an interesting deviation from the book, in which Media didn’t actually appear.

Media, the god of television, instead spoke to Shadow through famous TV personalities, including a newscaster and Lucy from I Love Lucy.

Of course, we would absolutely love if Media, say, appeared to Shadow in the form of Scully from The X-Files, but because Gillian Anderson is such a huge name, it’s more likely that the show has expanded her role to be more central to the plot.

This marks a reunion for Anderson and American Gods exec Bryan Fuller, who previously worked together on Hannibal.

American Gods is set to premiere in 2017 on Starz. It follows main character Shadow, an ex-convict who is released from prison only to learn that his wife is dead and that gods are real. He goes on an epic cross-country journey with the so-called ‘Mr. Wednesday,’ finding his place in the new world just as the old gods and the new gear up for all-out war.
