Bill Murray is set to have a cameo in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, and the actor explains why he finally agreed to do a cameo in director Paul Feig’s movie.

Apparently Murray hasn’t wanted to return to Ghostbusters, even before the reboot starring the all-female cast was announced, so he explained why he decided to do a cameo for the highly anticipated movie.

In an interview with Vulture, Murray said, “I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really… It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].”

It seems the actor was apprehensive, but didn’t want to cause any negative press for the film because he was such a fan of the ladies leading the reboot. He doesn’t seem to show great support for the film, but doing the cameo is definitely a way for him to confirm that he’s glad they’re rebooting a franchise that made him a household name.

He later changed his tune a bit, and said that he felt, “they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there. They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it.”

Everyone knows Bill Murray is pretty much one of the nicest actors on the planet, so it’s not surprising that he ended up doing a cameo for the film. Like he mentioned, he probably struggled on the decision as to whether having a role in the film would overshadow the film itself.

We’re glad he decided to do a cameo, and we think Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon will be incredible in the movie. Thor actor Chris Hemsworth is also in the film, so this has become a star-studded affair, and we look forward to its release.

The Ghostbusters reboot release date has been set for July 22, 2016.

Ghostbusters‘ official synopsis: “Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it’s being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.”
