The Ghost Rider live-action series is officially a no-go at Hulu, though the streaming service will still go forward with Helstrom.

Sorry Ghost Rider and Robbie Reyes fans — it looks like the Ghost Rider live-action series is officially dead in the water (or, perhaps, hellfire?).

Deadline broke the news earlier today that Hulu has decided not to proceed with the its planned live-action series based on the character.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as the streamer had enthusiastically picked up two new live-action Marvel Television series — Ghost Rider and Helstrom — back in May and set them both to premiere in 2020. Of the two, Ghost Rider was the more popular and highly anticipated, as the character had been well received when he premiered in the Marvel Television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

However, it’s been reported that while the lesser-known character Helstrom will still be going forward as a series, it seems that Hulu and the Ghost Rider team parted ways due to creative differences that we have yet to learn more about.

Prior to his appearance in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, most of the general audiences were likely familiar with the character due to the 2007 Sony film starring Nic Cage. However, while that version was Johnny Blaze, the one that took to the small screen in the 2016 season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was Robbie Reyes, played by Gabriel Luna.

The spin-off show was set to be executive produced by The Punisher showrunner Stephen Lightfoot, along with Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. Lightfoot would’ve also served as showrunner for Ghost Rider, which would’ve starred Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes version of the character.

It’s currently unclear whether the series is being shopping elsewhere, though given the fact that Hulu has become the go-to for Marvel Television shows since the Netflix-Marvel breakup, it seems unlikely.
