George R.R. Martin’s series of novellas set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire will be re-released in graphic novel form, and the latest entry will be adapted for the first time.

The graphic novel versions of The Tales of Dunk and Egg will soon be re-released, author George R. R. Martin announced on his blog. The graphic novels, which have been out of print for several years, will be issued both in print and on digital devices by Jet City, a new comics imprint of Amazon Publishing.

The Hedge Knight, the first of the tales, will be available in November; the second story, The Sworn Sword, will return in early 2014.

In addition, the third novella, called The Mystery Knight, will receive a graphic novel adaptation for the first time. This latest story – which also has the most to offer keen-eyed readers by way of information relevant to current events in the Song of Ice and Fire series – was published in 2010 but was never adapted by Marvel Comics.

The Mystery Knight adaptation will be released by Random House. Ben Avery and Mike S. Miller will return to script and draw the comic respectively.

The Tales of Dunk and Egg are a series of stories recounting the youthful adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire – a bald boy called Egg, who eventually became King Aegon V. The novellas take place in the realm of Westeros, about 100 years before the events of Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series begin.

Though the stories are independent of the novels, they provide rich history for fans of Martin’s world on a more intimate and mundane scale than the novels do.

The Tales of Dunk and Egg have been suggested as material for live-action adaptation by HBO, alongside Game of Thrones. However, at present, no official plans have been released for a potential adaptation of Martin’s novellas.
