There are no reassuring words for anxious fans from A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, who previews the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones in a new interview! No specific spoilers.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, George talks about why the series wouldn’t work on network television and justifies its 10pm time slot. Speaking about what’s coming up, he offers some hints:

No one is safe in this show, anyone can die at any time. The people who have read the books know there are some huge deaths and betrayals and reversals are coming. Nobody is quite as they seem.

Anyone who has read A Clash of Kings can definitely testify to this! There are huge surprises in store.

The author also commends showrunners Benioff and Weiss for staying true to the source material:

They’re sticking fairly close. So far, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss seem very much committed to making my story in a different medium rather than making a different story, which I’m a little in favor of. (Laughs.)

As are we! Game of Thrones premieres April 1 on HBO (and April 2 on Sky in the UK!).
