Author George R.R. Martin will celebrate the release of his A Song of Ice and Fire-based world book with a speaking engagement in New York – but fans around the world can tune in.

New York City’s 92nd Street Y will host George R.R. Martin on Oct. 26 to promote the long-awaited release of his new world book, The World of Ice and Fire. The new aptly-titled volume is a coffee table-style compendium of history, legend, and lore from the world of Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, on which the HBO hit Game of Thrones is based.

Tickets to the event begin at $170 dollars, and include a signed copy of The World of Ice and Fire. For fans unable to attend, the discussion will be live-streamed from the website of 92nd Street Y, where viewers can also submit questions to Martin.

Though not the author’s most anticipated new work (that would undoubtedly be The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in his series) The World of Ice and Fire represents several years of work from Martin and co-authors Linda Antonsson and Elio Garcia Jr. of Westeros.org. Martin and his co-authors were meant to provide 50,000 words of text – and in Martin’s own words, “Got carried away.”

Subtitled “The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones,” the world book will include information on everything from the conquest of the Seven Kingdoms by Aegon the Conqueror, to the legendary Nymeria’s battles in the Rhoynar, and much more besides. Full family trees of the Houses Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen will be included, along with 170 pieces of original art created for The World of Ice and Fire.

Of the vast compendium, Martin himself seemed almost giddy at the chance to handle a finished copy at San Diego Comic-Con.

“It’s everything I hoped for!” he reported in a Not-A-Blog post. “A bloody gorgeous book… I wanted to give my fans the best fantasy concordance ever published. I think we did.”

The World of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin will be released on Oct. 28.
