A Song of Ice and Fire saga author George R.R. Martin has announced plans to screen Game of Thrones episodes in his own private cinema in New Mexico.

Starting in January 2014, lucky fans will be able to watch Game of Thrones episodes from seasons 1-3 on the big screen, in George R.R. Martin’s private cinema.

The A Song of Ice and Fire author purchased the Santa Fe cinema earlier this year, and now he has arranged with HBO for episodes of the adaptation series to be screened there for free.

Martin writes on his blog,

So, by special arrangement with HBO, the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe will be presenting a GAME OF THRONES retrospective. New Mexicans — and lucky tourists passing through at the right time — will have a chance to see the show the way only VIPs and cast members and critics have ever seen it before, at private screenings and premieres — on the big screen at a movie theatre.

And what’s more, Martin plans to attend several of the screenings himself (although no set schedule of his appearances has been made). He will introduce the episodes, and afterwards sign books and answer audience questions.

He also teases that, “It may be we will have some other special guests as well, either in person or via Skype. Can’t promise anything as of yet, but we’re working on it.”

The first screening will take place Monday, January 6, and the Jean Cocteau Cinema will continue to show two Game of Thrones episodes every week through late March.
