On the wave of the success of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, series writer Bryan Cogman, and creators Benioff and Weiss have produced two tie-in books: The Lands of Ice and Fire and Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The Lands of Ice and Fire is a companion book to George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga. It focuses on the layout of Martin’s universe, and comes with a complete map of Westeros (which would be useful to have on hand when reading the books!). The description reads:

Never before has the entire scope of Martin’s universe been so exhaustively and fascinatingly depicted. The maps in this beautiful, one-of-a-kind atlas will enrich your reading or viewing experience, provide another view of your favorite characters’ epic journeys, and open up captivating new worlds—plus, they’ll look great on any castle wall.

This must-have book will be released on October 30, 2012.

Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones is a more traditional companion book, featuring interviews with cast and crew and insight into producing the series. It contains introductions written by Martin, Weiss and Benioff, and the official description reads:

This official companion book gives fans new ways to enter this fictional world and discover more about the beloved (and reviled) characters and the electrifying plotlines. Hundreds of set photos, production and costume designs, storyboards, and insider stories reveal how the show’s creators translated George R. R. Martin’s best-selling fantasy series into the world of Westeros. Featuring interviews with key actors and crew members that capture the best scripted and unscripted moments from the first two seasons, as well as a preface by George R. R. Martin, this special volume, bound in a lavishly debossed padded cover, offers exclusive access to this unprecedented television series.

This will be available on September 25, 2012.

Both books retail for $40, and are available for pre-order now (look for discounts before you place your order!). Will you be getting either of these?
