Star Wars creator George Lucas, who sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, says that he hasn’t watched the trailer for The Force Awakens.

And it appears to be a purposeful decision.

The revelation came up when Lucas was asked by Page Six whether or not he saw the new Star Wars trailer – perhaps one of the biggest moments in The Force’s history since the theatrical release of Episode 6. “I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t seen it yet,” he said.

Lucas argues that he decided not to take a look because he wants to see it on the big screen. “I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there,” he said. “I plan to see it when it’s released.”

Although the trailer for The Force Awakens ran in select theaters over Thanksgiving weekend, Disney plans to release it in all theaters later this month (likely starting with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies).

Given Lucas’ involvement with the series (he CREATED IT) and the importance of the trailer, you would’ve thought that he’d make an exception to his see-trailers-in-theaters rule. He almost comes off like a jealous ex-boyfriend who can’t bear to relive his beloved past.

When Lucas sold his studio to Disney in October 2012, over $4 billion exchanged hands. You’d think that Lucas could do his old studio the courtesy of acting like he cares by at least pretending he’s seen and loved the trailer.
