This week’s Geek Gifts is all about power. Celebrate Pride and Prejudice and Zombies with a cool cross stitch and The Flash with a quick painting.

Geek Gifts is a weekly feature article written by Donya Abramo and Karen Rought. With every installment, the duo picks out a fandom-related item they’ve recently come across and describes it in loving detail. There are no product placements here. We only talk about items we’re excited to share with the rest of the world.

Your Geek Gifts come in a variety of ways, be it jewelry, clothing, games, or something else entirely. We strive to remain unbiased, and we plan on constantly expanding our own horizons as we search for new and interesting pieces. The only requirement is that it must give us the burning need to open our wallets and throw money at its creator.

My weakness for period dramas is well-known amongst my friends, family and roommates. Christmas Day is sacred to me for watching the Downton special, and my dad is relegated to silently drinking his coffee.

But Pride and Prejudice has always been a weakness of mine — I watch the BBC adaption featuring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth far more regularly that I should — and well… its newest adaption won’t be any different.

I’m not a fan of zombies, truth be told, but even I’ll admit to being incredibly impressed with how the trailer for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies turned out. Regency ladies taking names and kicking undead ass? I’m pretty sure I’ll be sat on a cinema seat before you can blink.

Lately I’ve also been getting back into cross-stitching, and this line is one of my favorites from the book, so when I saw the pattern for it on Etsy, I knew it would be perfect to frame and put in my office. Sure, you’ll have to put a little effort into creating this one yourself, but I happen to find the thought of pairing such a “lady-like” activity with unlikely words, phrases and sayings hilarious.

So, pick up your needle and thread and join me in the obstinate, headstrong girl’s club.

Sometimes Life Just Happens and you get behind on all your shows. But that’s okay — it just gives you an excuse later on to park your butt in front of the TV and binge watch as much as your brain can possibly handle.

And that’s exactly what I did. I caught up on a bunch of my favorite shows, like Gotham, Quantico, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But I also caught up on Flash, and remembered why I fell in love with this show in the first place (mostly Cisco and Joe).

So, in honor of being back in Central City, I found this gorgeous painting of the Flash’s symbol. The artist took acrylics, water, and alcohol and speed painted it into a beautiful blend of red and yellow, with the lightning bolt off to one side. Not only is it stunning to look at, the way in which is was created is more than appropriate for the character.

(Be sure to check out the other paintings in the shop, too. They’re amazing!)
