Because franchises are now his thing, Gary Oldman might be in Star Wars: Episode VII.

While doing press for RoboCop, Gary Oldman revealed that he has been approached for Star Wars: Episode VII.

“They’ve called,” Oldman said in an interview with SkyNews. “I’m more cynical about it now. I’ll believe it when I’m on the plane home. The deal isn’t done. But yeah, they’ve inquired.”

If those quotes don’t already sound promising enough, it’s the inflection in Oldman’s voice that is perhaps most promising. Here’s the full interview.

Oldman definitely seemed to perk up when talking about it, and it almost seemed as if he really wanted to reveal that he’s in it but simply couldn’t.

“I mean, Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter, Batman, Star Wars…bloody hell,” Oldman later continued. When grouped together, it appears as if he’s keeping his own personal franchise trophy case. It almost seemed like he had already thrown Star Wars in there.

But maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

Oldman would be a fantastic addition to the yet unfilled cast if he indeed were to join Episode VII. What role would he fill? That is unclear at this time, but that should be expected. Not much is currently known.

Just at the end of January it was announced that the Star Wars: Episode VII script had been completed after director J.J. Abrams and Empire Strikes Back screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan took over the script from Academy Award winning scribe Michael Arndt.

Should Gary Oldman be cast in ‘Star Wars’?
