We recently reported unofficial news that Gangster Squad would cut an entire scene which eerily imitates the deadly movie theater shooting from Aurora last week.  Warner Bros. has now officially confirmed this, and because of the re-shooting of the film, Gangster Squad now has a later release date.

Originally scheduled to hit theaters on September 7, Gangster Squad will now be released on January 11.

Deadline states:

There will be an alternate murder spree scene shot, but it will not be in a movie theater. The move also creates some distance for the film, which unfortunately had a trailer attached to the Batman finale.

Gangster Squad stars Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone and is a period drama set in the 1940s-1950s. You can watch the trailer here.

What are your thoughts about the film being re-shot due to the Aurora shootings?
