Several new photos from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey surfaced online today thanks to Cine Marcado and feature three highly anticipated characters.

In the photos below we see appearances from Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Bilbo (Martin Freeman), and Frodo (Elijah Wood). The Hobbit, which is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, actually does not feature much of Frodo so the photo below is one of the few glimpses we’ll have at the character who was prominent in Peter Jackson’s Rings trilogy last decade.

The country of New Zealand, where The Hobbit trilogy was shot, is gearing up to host the world premiere of Part 1: An Unexpected Journey. The city of Wellington will change their name to “The Middle of Middle-earth” for three weeks. The new name will be used on letters, in the city’s newspaper, and on postcards. The city’s new logo can be seen in our previous story. It was designed by Daniel Reeve, who did cartography and calligraphy for the films.

An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14. Part 2, The Desolation of Smaug will be released December 13, 2013. There and Back Again, part 3, will be released July 18, 2014. Watch the latest An Unexpected Journey trailer!

Thanks, Coming Soon.
