With all the major game releases lately, it can be hard to decide which games you should pick up now and which ones you may be able to wait on. Have no fear, Hypable is here to help make the decision just a little bit easier.

#1 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

If you are only able to pick up one title this fall, make it Skyrim. Not only is Skyrim a magnificent experience unlike any other game on the market, it is also the game that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. Bethesda, developers of the game, claim it could take players over 300 hours to see everything the game has to offer though you could play for much longer with the game’s dynamic quest system that will generate an infinite number missions for the player. Skyrim is the must have game of the fall.

#2 Batman Arkham City

Get back behind the cowl in this follow-up to 2009’s Arkham Asylum. Now with an open world to explore and more bad guys to take down, Arkham City is a must play experience for any fan of the caped crusader as well as anyone looking for a great game for the holidays. The game’s revolving door of villains keep you interested in the story while you beat down crooks with the game’s fluid combat system. You can find Hypable’s review of the game here.

#3 The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

This game demands your attention just from the title alone. It demands even more of your attention as some are saying it is the best game in an already legendary series. Controls for the game have been revamped with the implementation of Wii MotionPlus along with a live orchestral score for the first time in the series’ history.

#4 Rayman Origins

Some may scoff at a full priced 2D platformer in today’s market, but I implore you not to overlook this under-marketed gem of a game from designer Michel AncelRayman Origins is a beautiful game filled with bright and colorful animated backgrounds that makes you feel like you are playing your own cartoon. With 4 player local co-op and 60+ levels, it is the perfect cooperative experience for the holidays that should not be forgotten about.

#5 Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

The latest entry in the PS3-exclusive Uncharted series does not disappoint, delivering even bigger set-piece moments and a refined multiplayer experience. Uncharted 3’s story and cast of characters will draw you in and keep you playing until the final credits roll with witty banter and explosive combat along the way. If you’re looking for a fun, Indiana Jones type adventure this holiday season, you need look no further.

#6 Super Mario 3D Land

Dust off your 3DS because the killer app for the system has finally arrived in the form of, what else, a Mario game. 3D Land shares many qualities with the 2D Mario games of old in terms of level design but manages to utilize 3D better than any other game for the handheld. Also, the game marks the return of the infamous Tanooki suit.

#7 Dark Souls

This game has the reputation of being one of the hardest of this console generation, but don’t let that scare you off from this rewarding experience. It is a game that requires a huge amount of patience and a cool head to progress through the brilliant level design. While difficult, it is always fair in its merciless killing and you never feel the game cheated you upon dying. Don’t let fear get the best of you when thinking about picking up this title, it is well worth your time.

#8 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3/ Battlefield 3

The reason I group these together is because unless you are a major fan of first-person military shooters, in which case you probably already have both, you probably only need to pick up one of these titles. My advice? If you are in the market for an action-packed single player experience or co-op, then pick up Modern Warfare. If, however, you are just looking for a multiplayer game, go with Battlefield 3 as it’s more team-oriented focus will prove to be deeper and keep you interested for longer.

Agree with our list? Did we miss anything? What are you planning on picking up this holiday season?
