The Game of Thrones universe looks seamless on screen, but in a new video viewers can get an insight into exactly how the dragons, the Shadow baby and the fantastical landscapes were brought to life in season 2.

Warning: if you want to go on believing that it’s all real with perhaps a little ketchup smeared as blood, don’t watch this video! The dragons weren’t really there.

The video was posted on Wired.com. They also feature an interview with Pixomondo visual effects supervisor Rainer Gombos, where he explains the process of creating some of these amazing effects.

Speaking about the dragons, one of the most extensive jobs of the season, Gombos says:

The dragons mature this season so their look is more fierce. In the first season, the dragons are freshly hatched so they are more delicate. We changed the proportions up a bit and made the spokes more prominent so the dragons are much more menacing now.

Isn’t it incredible to see the amount of work which goes into every single detail of the show?
