Check out a new Game of Thrones season 3 production video, where Kit Harington, Ciaran Hinds and George R.R. Martin take us beyond the Wall where the wildlings live.

This video was released on SpoilerTV, and aside from some great cast interviews there are also a few new scene snippets. Check it out:

In the clip we see Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ygritte (Rose Leslie) entering the camp of Wildlings, where Jon will meet the King Beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds).

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin gives us some backstory for the wildlings, explaining that they were dubbed “wildlings” by the people who live south of the Wall.

“They’re feral, and they fight incredibly well, and they’re tough,” Rose Leslie explains – with no small measure of pride in her voice.

Kristofer Hivju, who plays Tormund Giantsbane, talks about how ruthless the people are, and that they are connected because they need each other.

“There’s actually quite a lot of Westeros north of the wall,” Martin explains, as it’s so large – “probably as large as Canada,” he says.

We’ll also meet giants this season – and other creatures which showrunner D.B. Weiss reminds us are only the stuff of legend south of the Wall, but here, they’re very real.

Another difference between the north and the south, Kit Harington explains, is that among the wildlings, women are seen as more equal, and are expected to fight like men.

“As a wildling woman you fight for what you want, and if you don’t, you’ve then got to live this life whether you made that decision or not. So you’ve got to stand up for yourself,” Leslie says.

Finally we meet Mance Rayder, played by Ciaran Hinds. A wildling by birth, Martin explains, who was raised by the Night’s Watch after he was captured as an infant. But instead of becoming leader of the Watch, he deserted to lead the wildlings.

Ultimately, Harington doesn’t think the wildlings are fighting for anything. “Beyond the wall they’re happy, this is their land, their free world.” Sadly now, the wildlings are forced into action… because “the real enemy,” showrunner David Benioff warns, “is out there, and is capable of destroying all of them.”
