This season of Game of Thrones has held a lot of surprises for book readers and non-book readers alike, so it comes as no shock that according to show runners, the finale will be the best finale yet.

This season’s finale episode is titled “The Children,” and in a statement by show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the episode will prove to be the best finale of the series yet.

“It’s the best finale we’ve ever done, bar none. The performances from our cast, the direction from Alex Graves, the VFX work, the new [music] cues from Ramin Djawadi—all of it came together in perhaps the finest hour we’ve produced. We’re immensely proud of ‘The Children.’ And a little intimidated by the episode, because now we have to get back to the business of season five and figure out a way to top it.”

It’s normal for the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones to have the biggest shocks and most important scenes, while the finale episode takes a calmer route exploring the aftermath. This year, we can expect things to be a little different.

We’re excited to see what the finale will hold, since we still have questions about Tyrion Lannister’s fate after being sentenced to death in episode 8. Meanwhile, Jon Snow is off to find Mance Rayder and Arya will be setting a new path for herself. Oh, and we can’t forget about Daenerys! All of these characters are going to be in this year’s finale.

The synopsis reads:

An unexpected arrival north of the Wall changes circumstances. Dany is forced to face harsh realities. Bran learns more of his destiny. Tyrion sees the truth of his situation.

What could be in store for our favorite characters? Book readers have an idea, but non-book readers will have to wait until Sunday to find out!
