Now that season two of Game of Thrones is over, what better way to help momentarily forget that it won’t be back on again for another year by remembering the best quotes of the season?

It was not easy selecting these quotes, because there are just so many great ones. I tried to do a balance of funny one-liners and ones that made you think, but please feel free to share your own favourites in the comments.

Naturally, there are going to be a lot from Tyrion. He pretty much delivers something memorable every time he’s on screen, but here are a couple I particularly enjoyed.

“You love your children. It’s your one redeeming quality. That and your cheekbones.” – Tyrion

The constant banter between Tyrion and Cersei this whole season has just been excellent to watch, whether it’s Tyrion delivering the insult or Cersei. The actors have done really well to make every scene between them engaging.

“I will hurt you for this. A day will come when you think you’re safe and happy and your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth. And you will know the debt is paid.” – Tyrion

Not only does Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) have great comedic timing, but he also knows how to make threats sound as menacing as possible.

TV watchers, remember. A Lannister always pays his debts.

“Why are all the gods such viscous c*nts? Where’s the God of tits and wine?” – Tyrion

Funny as usual, but that’s expected of Tyrion. I would have liked to include Tyrion slapping Joffrey again, but unfortunately I can’t really convey the deep satisfaction or impact of the slap with just quotation marks.

Another Lannister, Tyrion’s older sister Cersei, also had some memorable lines of her own.

“If the city falls, these fine women should be in for a bit of a rape.” – Cersei

So I had to put this one in. Drunk Cersei was hilarious during that whole episode, but the way Lena Heady (Cersei) delivered it, as if you could only get a little bit raped, changed the tone from horror to funny (only in her utter disregard for the welfare of her court.)

“Tears aren’t a woman’s only weapon. The best one is between your legs.” – Cersei

Cersei was just dropping truth bombs the entire episode, but this one really stuck out, as it’s not only horrible but true, especially in the world of Game of Thrones where it truly sucks to be a woman.

Can we talk about Bronn? Because Bronn is just awesome. He doesn’t take any crap and tells it to you straight, never mind whether you want to hear it or not.

“There’s no cure for being a c*nt”– Bronn

The bluntness of the statement and the nonplus way he says it make for comedy gold. I’m sure there were many people who were fist pumping to the truth of Bronn’s words for the most hated character in the series, Joffrey.

Still in King’s Landing, one of the most cunning men is Varys, who often has wisdom to share.

“A very small man can cast a very large shadow.” – Varys

This is a significant line that echoes throughout the season and foreshadows Tyrion’s power and impact on King’s Landing.

Moving beyond the Wall, newcomer Ygritte shone in all her scenes.

“You know nothing, Jon Snow.” – Ygritte

I know there are many more amazing lines that she delivered, ones that made you laugh out loud at her vulgarity and Jon’s discomfort, but as a book fan, this line is so important to Ygritte as a character, that I was on the edge of my seat waiting to hear it.

And now for another badass, Arya Stark. I loved her in season one as the girl who didn’t want to be a lady, and now I love her as the ghost of Harrenhal, deciding the death of her enemies.

“Anyone can be killed” – Arya

Don’t we know it. RIP Ned Stark.

I loved this line for the hidden threat behind her words, as well as its truth.

Turning to Arya’s new found friend, we have the secret ninja assassin Jaqen H’ghar.

“A man needs a name” – Jaqen H’ghar

Aaah, is there anything cooler than an attractive man talking in third person? Sure, it’s a bit strange, but it definitely makes his character memorable and intriguing.

Finally, there is Danerys, a fan favourite from season one.

“I am Danerys Stormborn and I will take what is mine, with fire and blood.” – Danerys

Although her storyline kind of went nowhere this season and she was acting a bit spoiled at times, this quote, and her conviction when saying it, reminded me that Danerys is not someone to cross and that she is a strong female character.

“Any man dies with a clean sword, I’ll rape his f***ing corpse.” – The Hound (Sandor Clegane)

“But this is Stannis Baratheon. I’d have a better chance seducing his horse.” – Cersei

“And now I’ve struck a king. Did my hand fall from my wrist?” – Tyrion
