In a first-of-its-kind viewing experience, the first Game of Thrones season 5 trailer will be screened in IMAX theaters.

HBO’s Game of Thrones is already bigger than anything else on television, so it’s only natural that the epic fantasy series should fit comfortably on the big screen.

Make that the biggest screen. HBO announced today that, from Jan. 23 – 29, the first trailer for Game of Thrones season 5 will debut in IMAX theaters across the U.S. And that’s not all – to set the stage (or screen?) for the exclusive first look at the new season, HBO will screen the final two episodes of season 4 in advance of the trailer.

The screening of the two highly-acclaimed episodes, “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children,” makes Game of Thrones the first television show to be shown in IMAX. Says HBO’s Pamela Levine, “The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format.”

The two episodes will be digitally remastered for the epic IMAX format, bringing the murder, sex, battles, and betrayal of Game of Thrones to life like never before.

The week-long cinematic experience will be screened at 150 IMAX theaters across the country. Tickets will be available for purchase at IMAX.com.

The Game of Thrones season 5 trailer will be our first extended look at the upcoming season. Brief teases have been released through the viral marketing game called “The Sight,” but hopefully the new IMAX trailer will offer more than flickers of footage.

After all, it’s the new year, and winter Game of Thrones is coming!

Game of Thrones season 5 will air this Spring on HBO.
