We’re back in the bloody world of Westeros and beyond when Game of Thrones season 5 finally premieres tonight!

The episode, titled “The Wars to Come,” will immediately launch fans back into the personal drama, political intrigue, and holy-crap-did-that-just-happen shock-fest of the epic fantasy drama.

On the last season of Game of Thrones… well, a whole lot of things happened. The Tyrells killed Joffrey, the Mountain killed the Viper, Brienne killed the Hound, a giant killed Grenn, Ygritte killed Pyp, that little Night’s Watch kid killed Ygritte, Tyrion killed Tywin and Shae… and here’s where we left everyone else.

When we return to Westeros in the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere, Cersei and Jaime are reeling from Tywin’s death in King’s Landing, while Tyrion has fled half-heartedly across the Narrow Sea. At the Wall, Jon Snow struggles to hold on to his loyalties in the face of Stannis’s (and Melisandre’s) power, while Sansa attempts to figure out her place in Littlefinger’s schemes.

And while other plots percolate in Braavos and Dorne, Daenerys finds that the personal and political costs of ruling Meereen have no intention of stabilizing any time soon.

In addition to a few more specific teases for the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere, the two major trailers for Game of Thrones season 5 make it eminently clear there will be no shortage of epicness in the upcoming season.

And shorter sneak peeks (in addition to a few brief clips) promise battles, sinners, and sex.

Dedicated fans should also note that with the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere, the show is embarking into confirmed spoiler territory – material not yet covered by George R.R. Martin’s books. But for those who do intend to continue watching (and it’s no easy decision) fans across the world will all be able to tune in to the unprecedented global simulcast of “The Wars to Come.”

The Game of Thrones season 5 premiere, “The Wars to Come,” airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
