Game of Thrones‘ season 5 finale was a relentless attack on our feels.

After five seasons, the unthinkable has finally happened: Game of Thrones has caught up with its source material. We are all Unsullied now — and no one knows what’s coming next. But, that’s for later. For now, there’s PLENTY of twists, set-ups and shocks to discuss as we come to terms with the most shocking Thrones finale since Dany birthed her dragons.

Check out our five favorite moments of the episode below, and please add yours in the comments!

“Go on, do your duty.”

The last surviving Baratheon brother went from Stannis ‘The Mannis’ to Stannis ‘Daughter Slaughter’ in a few minutes last week. When we join him at the beginning of season 5’s finale, he’s not just lost his daughter, wife, magical mistress and half of his army — he’s lost most of his fans as well. Despite his increasingly desperate and delusional attempts to claim the Iron Throne, we couldn’t help but feel sorry for the ‘Lord of Light’ when his fire finally went out.

Stephen Dillane has always been one of the classiest actors on the show, and his last moments as the King Who Almost Was saw as commanding a performance as ever. Stannis’ death is a big shock to show watchers and book readers alike, with the burn-happy Baratheon’s fate not sealed in the novels. We can still hold on to the fact that we didn’t actually see Brienne kill him, but we can’t really see how they’d get away with keeping him alive.

“I’m glad he left me you.”

Arya has gone on psychotic, vengeful murder sprees in the past — but none of them have been quite this violent. After we plunge further into the depths of Meryn Trant’s depravity, the toughest of his victims reveals her true face. Then, in a scene which could have been taken straight from one of Tarantino’s films, she murders him in the most brutal way she can.

Her revenge comes at a cost though, as Jaqen reminds her of her mistakes. After teaching her about mortality, he takes something from her — her eyesight. Nobody knows what this means for her in the future, but we’re sure this hindrance will be temporary and ultimately beneficial to Arya’s journey. This is Thrones though, so who knows…

“The birds sing in the West, the birds sing in the East.”

Left to pick up the pieces after Dany rode away on Drogon, Tyrion, Jorah, and Daario struggle to decide how best to move forward in Meereen. Fortunately, there was a glimmer of hope among all the doom and gloom, as it was revealed that Grey Worm managed to overcome his injuries. Perfect timing too, as Tyrion will need his help to restore order to Meereen.

Grey Worm won’t be the only help he has, either. In a moment of surprise which was overshadowed by the more macabre shocks of the episode, Varys reveals himself to his old friend as they prepare to embark on another democratic adventure together. Let’s hope their scheming antics in season 6 can rival the brilliant chemistry we saw in season 2! Team Dany just got much smarter.

“Shame. Shame. Shame.”

In typical Thrones fashion, “Mother’s Mercy” gave one of the most venomous characters in the Seven Kingdoms the come-uppance she deserved — but made us feel awful for her at the same time. When you think about all of the malicious and manipulative plots the King’s Mother has pulled off to try and keep her claws on the throne, her walk of atonement was nothing in comparison. Still, the emotional and physical abuse she was subjected to was excruciating to watch.

It will be good for her character in the long run, right? Cersei will learn from her mistakes, worship the Seven and become a model citizen, right? Right?! Nah, she’s gonna get her zombie Mountain to brutally murder all of them as soon as next season starts. Oh, Cersei.

“For the Watch.”

Game of Thrones does it again. We didn’t think the show could top the Red Wedding in terms of massive shocks and vital character deaths — and then members of the Night’s Watch stabbed Jon to death in a short and sharp scene that ended the season. That’s right, no reaction, no fallout, and no way to deal with this massive blow for another TEN MONTHS!

The mutiny had been teased and foreshadowed enough, but we were convinced that Jon had too much “plot armor” to go the same way as his older brother. He won’t stay dead, you say? Mellisandre will resurrect him and he’ll be released from his vows, you say? Well, we hope so too. But right now we’re just freaking out so much because Jon Snow is gone, and just like him, we know nothing about Westeros’ future.
