The first three episode titles for Game of Thrones season 5 have been released online, hinting at clashes to come.

Episode one of Game of Thrones season 5 will be titled “The Wars to Come.” Episode two is called “The House of Black and White,” while the third is titled “High Sparrow.”

“The Wars to Come” is a rather vague name to give the first episode of the long-awaited season, though we suspect this is deliberate. The title is unsurprisingly ominous, as the War of Five Kings has mostly concluded in Westeros.

But with increasing unrest across the Free Cities and Slavers Bay, encroaching White Walkers in the North, and the loss of Tywin Lannister’s cruelly stabilizing influence, it seems entirely plausible that multiple continents will once again be engulfed in conflict.

It’s quite exciting to see episode two titled “The House of Black and White,” a reference to the temple of assassins in Braavos, where Arya Stark is bound. After seeing Arya trudge through the literal and metaphorical grayness of Westeros since season 2, it will be wonderful to see the character in brand-new and utterly foreign circumstances.

Not to mention a new costume!

The third episode of Game of Thrones season 5, titled “High Sparrow,” is also intriguing. The title refers to the new leader of the Faith of the Seven, played by Jonathan Pryce. Eschewing the honorific of “High Septon,” as well as the wealth and influence which usually accompany the position, the High Sparrow devotes himself to the poor and disenfranchised flooding King’s Landing after war has devastated Westeros.

The High Sparrow is a man of the people – but he is also a man with militant faith and serious cunning. When his path crosses with Cersei Lannister, politics and religion make serious sparks in King’s Landing.
