Actor Charles Dance has dropped hints in a recent interview that season 4 of Game of Thrones may not have been his last.

While promoting his new film Dracula Untold, actor Charles Dance hinted that fans have not seen the last of the fearsome Tywin Lannister. Though the character met what Dance called “a suitably ignominious end” in the final episode of season 4, the actor appears to have had some work to do on Game of Thrones season 5.

“I’m not completely missing out on the next series,” Dance says in the interview, though he was reluctant to offer any further spoilers. Laughing heartily, he adds, “You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister, is all I’ll say.”

In spite of the actor’s playful teasing, it seems unlikely that Tywin Lannister, the father of Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion Lannister, will play a major role on Game of Thrones season 5. Viewers will vividly remember how the character apparently met his shocking (but incredibly satisfying) death at Tyrion’s hands – in a decidedly definitive manner.

As the character is quite dead by this point in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels on which Game of Thrones is based, it seems most sensible that Dance would be reprising his role to play Tywin Lannister’s corpse. The deceased Hand of the King has a memorable funeral scene in the source novels, and we suspect this scene will be equally dramatic in Game of Thrones season 5.

Alternatively, it is also possible that Dance will appear in a flashback. Casting news strongly indicates that Game of Thrones will be delving directly into the history of one of its central characters in the upcoming season, and Tywin Lannister might have a place in one of those scenes.

Game of Thrones season 5 will air in Spring 2015 on HBO.
