Game of Thrones fans won’t soon forget the Red Wedding, which dominated season 3. But get ready: George R.R. Martin teases another wedding in season 4!

From red to… purple? A Song of Ice and Fire readers have a pretty good idea about what’s going down in Game of Thrones season 4, and speaking to TV Guide, author George R.R. Martin gives a pretty good teaser:

“It’s going to be the wedding of the year,” Martin says, promising an event, “as memorable in its own way as our wedding last season.”

He is of course speaking about the marriage of everyone’s favourite ruler King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) to Margaery (Natalie Dormer), which is known to book fans as “the purple wedding.”

Why? Martin claims it’s, “based on the color of the wine, which plays a big part.”

TV show fans can only speculate about the reason for this – and we urge book readers to help the Unsullied stay spoiler-free!

What Martin can reveal is that the wedding will look spectacular.

“The bride’s dress incorporates roses, there are 77 courses at the dinner feast, and there’s some wonderful halftime entertainment,” the author says.

In related news, Natalie Dormer speaks to Vanity Fair about her character’s role in the acclaimed series.

“Margaery brings this whole new dimension, a very modern P.R. savvy, to the power play in Game of Thrones,” she says.

The actress also goes into the psychology of her character, believing that Margaery is a good person at heart.

Dormer explains, “I believe that she is very concerned in the welfare of the orphans and the populace. And it’s more interesting to play if she is sincere, to be honest.”

Finally, moving across the Narrow Sea, Entertainment Weekly recently reported that Game of Thrones season 4 will introduce British actor Joel Fry as Hizdar zo Loraq, a key player in Daenerys (Emilia Clarke)’s storyline.

Game of Thrones season 4 premieres spring 2014 on HBO.
