A long-awaited fight will settle more than one simmering score when Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8 airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. Though the episode, titled “The Mountain and the Viper,” will touch on several conflicts brewing throughout Westeros and beyond, the central focus will be the cataclysmic collision between Ser Gregor Clegane and Prince Oberyn Martell.

The official synopsis for Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8 sketches out tonight’s high-stakes scenarios.

Mole’s Town receives unexpected visitors. Littlefinger’s motives are questioned. Ramsay attempts to prove himself to his father. Tyrion’s fate is decided.

The groundwork for tonight’s events was laid in the most recent episode of Game of Thrones. Jon’s suggestion of defensive measures at Castle Black were rejected, while Sandor Clegane taught Arya about the human body and his terrible past. In Meereen, Daenerys took what she wanted from Daario Noharis, and then ordered him and Hizdar zo Loraq to subdue the Yunkish insurrection.

Meanwhile, Tyrion desperately tried to scrape up a champion to fight Gregor Clegane, which was unsuccessful until Oberyn Martell revealed his hand of cards – he plans to bring justice to his sister Elia by killing Clegane on Tyrion’s behalf. And Petyr Baelish stole a creepy kiss from Sansa, for which Lysa Arryn threatened to throw her niece out the Moon Door. Not to be outdone, Littlefinger shoved the Lady of the Vale to her distant death, instead.

The preview for “The Mountain and the Viper” indicates that Oberyn Martell is definitely not the only character facing a challenge tonight, as Theon, Sansa, and will all come up against dangerous obstacles of their own.
