We now know who will direct each episode of Game of Thrones season 4. There are no newcomers, and one director is taking on a whooping four episodes!

EW reports today that HBO has revealed their complete list of Game of Thrones season 4 directors.

We are interested to note that not only are there no new faces this year, but almost all directors are doing two or more of the 10 episodes:

Episode 1: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss
Episode 2: Alex Graves
Episode 3: Alex Graves
Episode 4: Michelle MacLaren
Episode 5: Michelle MacLaren
Episode 6: Alik Sakharov
Episode 7: Alik Sakharov
Episode 8: Alex Graves
Episode 9: Neil Marshall
Episode 10: Alex Graves

This year, the season opener is directed by D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. This is the first time ever that the Game of Thrones showrunners will be directing an episode together; Benioff previously directed season 3, episode 3 “Walk of Punishment.”

Episodes 4 and 5 will be directed by Michelle MacLaren, who joined the show in season 3 to direct “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” and “Second Sons,” another pair of back-to-back episodes.

Alik Sakharov, who has been with the show since season 2 (where he directed “What is Dead May Never Die”), is directing episodes 6 and 7 this year. In season 3, Sakharov directed the visually stunning episode “The Climb.”

Neil Marshall, of course, has already been announced as the director of the infamous episode 9, which he also directed in season 2 (“Blackwater”).

And finally, Alex Graves is directing episodes 2, 3, 8 and 10. That’s almost half the season, and includes the season 4 finale.

Graves directed two season 3 episodes, “Kissed By Fire” and “And Now His Watch is Ended,” both of which were very Night’s Watch-centric.

While we are disappointed to see that Alan Taylor and David Nutter will not be returning this year, it is reassuring that Game of Thrones is sticking to the directors already familiar with the story and the characters.

With four episodes directed by the same person, we can probably expect a very solid, consistent feel and tone in Game of Thrones season 4.
