Just in time for your weekly re-watch, HBO has released two fascinating new videos taking viewers behind the scenes and into the creation of the Game of Thrones season 3 premiere.

The first of two featurettes from HBO, “Inside the Episode” delves into three crucial scenes in the Game of Thrones season 3 premiere, “Valar Dohaeris.” In focus are Jon’s introduction to the wilding camp and Mance Rayder, Cersei’s perspective as Margaery tries to butter her up during dinner, and the latest assasaination attempt on Daenerys’ life. Check out the commentary clip right here:

It’s great to hear Benioff and Weiss’ thoughts on fresh material from Game of Thrones season 3, especially on a subtler scene like the dinnertable chat. Their observations on Cersei are quite astute (it must suck to realize that nobody likes you) and we can’t wait to watch the danse macabre develop between the cunning queen regent and her doe-eyed daughter-in-law to-be.

The next clip, “Anatomy of a Scene,” takes a closer look at the crucial scene from “Valar Dohaeris” where Daenerys meets the maimed and enslaved soldiers of Astapor – the Unsullied. Check it out below:

Not only does the clip take viewers through the concept, costuming, and set-dressing aspects of the scene, it offers a keen insight into Dany’s struggle this season – “The only way she can make the world a better place,” Weiss observes, “Is to become the biggest slave owner in the world.” Also featured are a brief introduction to Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), Unsullied in baseball caps, and a lovely shot of Ser Jorah holding a black (and decidedly un-Astaporian) umbrella.
