Game of Thrones, which has previously filmed in four different places around Europe, will be shooting in L.A. for season 3.

EW reports that the Game of Thrones production team, which is based in Northern Ireland and already moves its cast and crew to Morocco, Iceland and Croatia for fantastic scenery shots, has added L.A. as a location for season 3.

“For the first time, we’re flying in actors to L.A.,” showrunner David Benioff says. “So it ends up being five countries and three units this year. It’s just exploded.”

Here, the show will be shooting sequences with a real bear – yes, book fans, a bear. We know what you’re thinking.

It looks like this particular event (which we won’t spoil for you here, but we can tell you that it will involve at least the actors Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gwendoline Christie) will indeed take place in the third season, although it happens just over the midway point of season 3 (chapter 45 of 82). Will it be one of the season-ending moments, or are the writers switching around events somewhat?

Game of Thrones premieres on March 31 on HBO, and April 1 on Sky Atlantic.
