Matt Smith is the latest star to join the cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

HBO has made some more strides when it comes to rounding out the casting for its highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

According to Variety, The Crown and Doctor Who vet, Matt Smith, has officially signed on to take on the role of Prince Daemon Targaryen. Prince Daemon is the heir to the throne and also happens to be King Viserys’ younger brother. A warrior and a dragon rider, Daemon “possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air…”

Smith isn’t the only cast member who’s recently signed on to play a member of House Targaryen.

In addition, actresses Olivia Cooke (Sound of Metal) and Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers) have also joined the cast of House of the Dragon.

Cooke joins in the role of Alicent Hightower. Alicent is the daughter of Otto Hightower, who also happens to be the Hand of the King. Alicent is described as possessing “courtly grace and a keen political acumen.”

Finally, D’Arcy will take on the role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. :ike Daemon, Rhaenyra is a dragon rider, but she also happens to be the king’s first born, pure Valyrian-blooded child.

Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D’Arcy are the latest actors to join the cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel. They join previously announced cast member Paddy Considine who is set to take on the role of King Viserys Targaryen.

The prequel, which was given a straight to series order back in October 2019, is set to be based off of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a historic telling of the saga of House Targaryen.
