Ever sipped your butterbeer and thought, gee, I wish I could be fanboying over a Game of Thrones style beverage instead? Soon you’ll be able to do just that!

Winter is Coming has reported that an officially licensed Game of Thrones style line of beer is in development, and the first creation – the Iron Throne Blonde Ale, will be released to coincide with the premiere of third season of the epic medieval fantasy drama (which airs March 31, 2013).

It is the New York-based Brewery Ommegang which will be creating these Westerosian-inspired beverages. A total of four different kinds are planned, and the second is scheduled for fall 2013.

HBO writes in a press statement:

The collaboration between Ommegang and HBO is focused on developing truly unique beers that directly tie into themes, characters and nuances of the series of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and surrounding kingdoms.

The Iron Thrones Blonde Ale will be available on draft and in 750ml bottles, which will retail for $8.50.

HBO has previously released a themed drink for True Blood (bearing the same name), and we’re happy that they have decided to do the same for Game of Thrones!

Robert Baratheon, we wish you were alive to celebrate this moment with us. We’ll have a toast in your name!
