According to reports, Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa has tested for the character Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. Apparently Marvel Studios has yet to offer him the part, but it looks like he may be a favorite for the role.

Fans most likely know actor Jason Momoa for playing Khal Drogo in the first season of Game Of Thrones, but it’s been reported by the ever reliable Latino Review and THR that he’s flown out to London to screen test this past Wednesday. According to reports, Dave Bautista, Brian Patrick, and Isiah Mustafa have also tested for the role. Word is that Momoa’s screen test was “so good” that Marvel offered him the part and that “his reps have now countered, so negotiations are ongoing.”

THR followed up the report by stating that he has tested for the role, but that Marvel has not cast him as Drax just yet. The character itself is recruited by Star-Lord for the new Guardians of the Galaxy, when they are forced to ally themselves with a resurrected Thanos and travel into an alternate reality known as the “Cancerverse.” Some of his abilities include super strength, tremendous resilience, flight, and the ability to project concussive blasts of cosmic energy from his hands.

He can also travel at high speeds in outer space and hyperspace without air, food, or water. Drax possessed the ability to sense the presence of Thanos across vast distances and his strength is compared to the Hulk’s.

Just recently it was confirmed that the lead of Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord, would be played by Chris Pratt (Zero Dark Thirty) after rumors and quite a long search. Director James Gunn will be helming the film, and we look forward to hearing other casting news as we get closer to the film’s pre-production.

Guardians of the Galaxy follows a futuristic, alien superhero team protecting the galaxy from evil, led by Peter Quill. The team first appeared in Marvel comics in 1969, but wasn’t given their own series until the 1990s. Check out our latest news on Guardians of the Galaxy, as the film will hit theaters August 1, 2014.
